Wellington Rugby Football Union has announced that Wellington Beds will be the naming rights partner for the 2023 Junior Grade Competition, as part of an extended partnership.

Wellington Beds came on as a sponsor of the Wellington Lions during their title-winning 2022 season and will now be extending their sponsorship to include supporting junior rugby in the Capital.

Wellington Beds is a locally owned and operated company that has been serving the Wellington community for over 30 years. The company began as a small manufacturer in 1992 and has since grown to have five retail stores throughout the Wellington region. In 2014, the company moved to a bigger factory in Tawa, and in 2022, Paul Bary's niece Patrice and her husband Scott took over the business.

As a company that focuses on community, Wellington Beds recognizes the importance of giving back to the community that has supported them over the years. This is why they are proud to support grassroots rugby in the Wellington region, and specifically, the Junior Grade Competition.

Patrice Green, Director of Wellington Beds, said she was thrilled to support junior rugby in the Capital.

“As a company, we recognise the importance of giving back to the community that has supported us throughout the years and are proud to partner with Wellington Rugby Football Union supporting grassroots.

“We believe that rugby is more than just a sport; it teaches valuable life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and discipline, and brings people together from all walks of life. We couldn’t be more excited for this partnership and watching junior rugby grow from strength to strength,” said Green.

Wellington Rugby Football Union Chief Executive Officer, Shannon Paku, said he was pleased further develop a partnership with Wellington Beds.

“Locally owned and operated, they [Wellington Beds] put a huge focus on community.

“Patrice and Scott have three young children who are enrolled at Paremata-Plimmerton Rugby Club, so we’re thrilled to have them onboard for another season with the Lions and this year and have their support in the Junior Grade Competition,” said Paku.

In addition to supporting the Junior Grade Competition, Wellington Beds will also be supporting rugby clubs in the Capital with a rebate for anyone who purchases a bed from Wellington Beds during the rugby season. Those who make a purchase will be able to email their receipt along with the club they are associated with, and the club will receive a $50 rebate. This is a great initiative that encourages community involvement and support.

The extended partnership between Wellington Rugby Football Union and Wellington Beds is a fantastic example of a community-focused partnership. It demonstrates the importance of supporting grassroots initiatives, and how local businesses can play a vital role in building and strengthening local communities.

Paku added; “With partnerships like this, junior rugby in the Capital is set to grow from strength to strength.”
