Passing of Ellis Meachen

Wellington Rugby is deeply saddened by the passing of former Wellington Lions Assistant Coach, Ellis Meachen.

Ellis was a valued member of the Lions coaching team, serving as Assistant Coach to Dave Rennie during the 2002 season, working alongside captain Tana Umaga. His impact on the game extended beyond the Lions, with his dedication to coaching and player development leaving a lasting legacy in Wellington rugby.

The Meachen family is deeply embedded in our rugby community, with Ellis contributing significantly as the Club Coaching Coordinator at Ories. His passion for the game and commitment to nurturing talent have left an indelible mark on many.

Ellis passed away in Melbourne on Waitangi Day, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
