New All Black loose forward Vaea Fifita and star midfielder Matt Proctor have re-committed to the Wellington Lions for 2018 and beyond.

Fifita, who made his All Blacks debut off the bench against Samoa in Albany last month, has extended his contract with Wellington Rugby through to the end of the 2020 season.

"Wellington is the province that gave me my opportunity in rugby and I've been very proud to wear the Lions jersey for the past four years," Fifita said. "My family and I consider Wellington to be our home and I'm really excited to be able to continue my career here for the next few years."

Tongan-born Fifita, who plays for the Wellington Rugby Football Club, made his Lions debut against North Harbour in 2013 and has represented the province 28 times.

Proctor, who played centre for the Maori All Blacks against The British & Irish Lions this year, will continue to represent the Wellington Lions through to 2019.

The 25-year-old said he couldn't imagine himself playing for another New Zealand province.

"I'm a proud Wellingtonian and I've always considered it a privilege to wear the Lions colours and to be able to represent my home club Oriental Rongotai. Anytime I get the chance to represent Wellington is a real honour."

Proctor, a St Patrick's College old boy, has played 43 matches for Wellington since making his debut in 2012.

New Wellington Lions head coach Chris Gibbes said Fifita and Proctor epitomised the commitment and loyalty that made provincial rugby strong.

"Vaea and Matt are exciting players, but equally as important is that they're both extremely proud of where they live and who they represent. Those are the sort of values you want to see from all of your players and to have them commit to the Lions for a long period of time sends a powerful message to our other players."
