So’oialo drop-goal secures dramatic win for Tawa

There's been some great club rugby today, despite the muddy, chilly conditions.

Jubilee Cup

A huge result has seen Tawa issue OBU their first defeat of the Jubilee Cup season, after they secured a 16-15 win. James So'oialo hit a drop goal in the final moments to secure a thrilling win.

In other major results, Norths have beaten Petone 28-25 and MSP has won a high-scoring match against HOBM 33-27.

Extended Feature Game: Ories 13- Wainuiomata 3

Great scrambling defence and a powerful kicking game have earnt Ories their second consecutive victory. After absorbing a huge amount of pressure, fullback Alex Ropeti scored in the corner to secure the win. Wainuiomata were left to rue missed opportunities, particularly in the second-half.

Ories opened the scoring, after centre Malo Tuitama broke the line, showing impressive pace before offloading to Malachai Unasa who dotted down near the posts.

Wainuiomata had the run of play late in the half although staunch Ories defence ensured they held an 8-3 advantage at halftime.

The second half started in a similar fashion, with Wainui continuing to put pressure on the defence. Time after time they looked like scoring, before a handling error or penalty halted their momentum. Ories deserved credit for excellent scrambling defence.

After absorbing pressure, Ories started to gain the ascendency. First-five Hayden Whelan powerful kicking game was crucial in getting his side out of the danger zone. Finally, after bashing away at the line, Ropeti's try gave his side another important victory.

Hardham Cup

Upper Hutt has comprehensively beaten Avalon 45-22; and Johnsonville continue their winning run with a 17-5 win against the Axeman. Finally, Poneke score plenty of tries in their 53-7 win against Paremata-Plimmerton.

Premier Reserve

In the Ed Chaney Cup, Petone have beaten Norths 29-20; while MSP narrowly beat HOBM 25-23. In other results, Tawa drew with OBU 12-all and Ories beat Wainui 32-26.

Women's Rugby

In today's only Victoria Tavern Trophy result, Norths have comprehensively beaten OBU 38-7. In the Division Two competition, Petone beat Poneke 27-5 and HOBM thrashed Tawa 55-0.

Colts Competition

In the Les Mills John E Kelly Memorial Cup, Tawa have beaten OBU Green 27-25 in a big result for the competition leaders. In other results, Ories beat Paremata-Plimmerton 19-12; and Petone have secured a win against Norths 29-20. Finally, HOBM beat MSP 28-24.

In the Vic Calcinai Memorial Cup, the Upper Hutt Rams beat Avalon 37-18; and Poneke beat Johnsonville 24-19. Finally, Kapiti thrashed Wellington 48-5.
