Two final appearances ahead for Avalon

It’s been a successful day for the Avalon Wolves, having earnt their way into two finals next weekend. Their first grade team beat Tawa 22-19 to earn a place in the Paul Donoghue Memorial Cup Final against Johnsonville. 

At the same ground, Avalon’s Under 85Kg team also beat Tawa 16-3, to earn the right to play an in-form Wellington in the Paul Potiki Memorial Shield Final. Our full semi-final summary is below: 

 

FIRST GRADE 

Johnsonville Centennium Cup (First Grade, Division One)

Semi-Final One

Petone Brotherhood have narrowly defeated North Uso’s 15-12. This is a bit of an upset, after Norths headed into the finals series in first position. 

Semi-Final Two

Hutt Old Boys Marist have beaten the Goats 17-10, a great result for the club following their Jubilee Cup Final loss against the same club a few weeks ago.

Paul Donoghue Memorial Cup (First Grade, Division Two)

Semi-final One 

The Avalon Wolves earnt a hard-fought 22-19 win over Tawa, the first of two club victories. 

Semi-final Two 

Johnsonville controlled this game from the start and never gave the Rams a sniff, eventually winning 27-3. 

FINAL: AVALON V JOHNSONVILLE 

 

Under 85kg Grade 

Paul Potiki Memorial Shield (Under 85kg, Division One) 

Semi-final One 

Wellington have secured a comfortable 38-17 win against Eastbourne. They’ll be favourites to go all the way, following a brilliant season so far.   

Semi-final Two

Avalon have dominated Tawa, securing a 16-3 win. The Wolves will be delighted with this result, against a dangerous Tawa side. 

FINAL WELLINGTON V AVALON 

 

Tony O’Brien Shield (Under 85Kg, Division Two)

Semi-final One 

The Rams have upset first-placed OBU, eventually winning 30-19.  

Semi-final Two

Marist St Pats Red have defeated Western Suburbs 17-6. This is a disappointing result for Wests, who savour their finals appearances these days in senior rugby.
