|
News

There wold be few volunteers who have spent as much time dedicating themselves to the game as Old Boys University’s Maree Chivers in recent years.

Chivers, who is Wellington Rugby’s volunteer of the month, has spent much of the last seven years in positions of responsibility for the club which won the Jubilee
Cup in 2018.

The club’s captain for the past three years, Chivers made the decision, in consultation with her husband, at the end of 2017 to resign from her job so she could dedicate more time to her role at Old Boys University.

As club captain she serves as a member of the club’s executive committee while she also happily works as the ground manager for the premier and premier reserves when they play at Nairnville Park.

As well, she assists with the management of the club’s three colts teams while she also took up the role of the honorary secretary of the OBU Foundation which was set up in 2017.

Finding funding for the club has also been a big part of the work Chivers has done for the club as she leads funding applications while she also helps deliver the Victory University programme which helps with the club’s recruitment drive.

In fact, all members of the club have benefited from her work as she has also helped with supporters’ gear, organising black tie dinners, sponsorship for the premier men’s and women’s teams while managing the gear, equipment and consumables for all teams.

Wellington Rugby are proud to award her with a double pass to the All Blacks Rugby Championship test at Westpac Stadium and a night at Rydges Hotel.

Other winners for July are; Malcolm Gibbs (Poneke) Green Man and Rutherford & Bond Vouchers, Sai Tumai'ai (Ories) Mitre 10 Voucher, Epi Lima (Ories), Serena Curtis-Lemuelu (Ories) & Kevin Hare (Jville) Burger King Vouchers.
